Helping the CREATE Foundation
Going to a new foster home is a daunting experience for kids in State care. The CREATE Foundation and AMP Capital Shopping Centres (that’s us) are working together to make the transition a little bit easier.
We have supported the CREATE Foundation since 2006. The national not-for-profit organisation plays a vital role in improving the lives of children and young people in foster care, residential or kinship care.
These children have entered care through no fault of their own, due to neglect or abuse. Right now, there are 32,000 children in care across Australia – and the number grows by more than 3,300 children each year.
Children in care are some of Australia’s most disadvantaged citizens, and are more likely to end up with drug and alcohol problems, drop out of school, or end up in trouble with the juvenile justice system.
The CREATE Foundation offers hope to these kids, providing intervention and support programs to give them a better chance.
How we can all help
AMP Capital Shopping Centres provide funding and support in a number of ways.
For example, during August 2008 Pacific Fair hosted the 'Gold Coast 30 Icons Artwork Exhibition'. The exhibition showcased the best artists of the Gold Coast with paintings of our top 30 Icons. Each portrait was up for auction on Thursday 14 August, when more than 200 guests walked the red carpet to the Icons Event.
The evening saw the portraits go under the hammer with a total amount of $12,770 raised through the auctions with proceeds going to the Create Foundation and RQAS artists. The event was an historic occasion with twenty-two of the thirty Icons in attendance, as well as the artists, business partners, councillors and their guests.
We have also recently run a Christmas card design competition, which gave local primary school children the opportunity to raise money for their schools and the CREATE Foundation.
One lucky student from each school will have their artwork printed on a customised Christmas card for their school, courtesy of our Centre. Each winning student will also receive $50 in centre gift vouchers.
Cards will be sold to parents, teachers and friends for $2 each, with schools receiving $1.50 from the sale of each card and the remaining 50 cents donated to the CREATE foundation…a fantastic outcome!
These are just some of the ways we actively support the CREATE Foundation.
